Academic Staff

Sofia Koukouvinou,
B.Sc., M.Sc.

Sofia  began and completed her undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. in Psychology at East London University and M.Sc. of Medical Psychology at the University of Surrey). She is a member of the Special Educational Staff with an organizational position in a Special Education School Unit of the Ministry of Education.

Sofia has professional experience since 1987 in educational contexts for the disabled in the private and public sector (Pammakaristos Foundation, KEDDY, SMEA),  both as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the assessment and rehabilitation of learning difficulties and developmental disorders and as a member of the scientific team in programs such as: "Training - Specialization of Teachers in Autism" of Pammakaristos (1998 - 2001), as an external collaborator of EKPA for the project "Creating a virtual reality environment for people with autism" (1998 - 2000), the design and preparation of the ICF of IKPA.

She is a Regional Instructor of the alternative communication program MAKATON. Sofia has been trained in the application of the TEACCH method, in Sensory Integration, Social Stories and has participated in the research team of PNA for the effect of pharmacotherapy on children with autism.

She was also a member of the Scientific Team of the project: Design and Preparation for the Implementation of a New ICF Disability and Functionality Assessment System in Cyprus, based on the International Classification of the Disability and Health Functionality of the World Health Organization in the framework of the World Health Organization. 
Sofia was also a special project consultant at IPAP ‘Theotokos’ for the application of ICF in the digital convergence project “Development & Provision of Electronic Services of the IPAP Foundation. "Theotokos" for the Equal Access of Persons with Mental Retardation and Other Developmental Disabilities in the Information Society (2014).
