Course Details

Welcome to the website of the postgraduate programme in Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy!

The programme is offered at the College in collaboration with the School of Community Health and Midwifery of the State University of Central Lancashire and extends the range of Psychotherapy programmes we offer in Greece.

This pioneering one-year postgraduate programme combines theory, experiential education, placement and research application based on the principles of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy and includes a series of specialised workshops in Behavior Modification and Counselling with the 30-year know-how of the College in the subject.

Based on Stoicism Philosophy and Epictetus (50 AD - 138 AD), Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy is a synthesis of Cognitive (Adler, Ellis, Beck) and Behavioral (Watson, Pavlov, Rayner, Eysenck, Skinner) methods and approaches. At the core of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy are located three key Principles:

  • Cognitive function affects behavior
  • Cognitive function can be changed and controlled
  • Desired changes in behavior can be influenced by cognitive changes

The aim of this Approach is to recognise dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors and then to change our thought patterns, our conscious and unconscious beliefs, our attitudes and, ultimately, our behavior, so that we can face difficulties of everyday life more successfully.

CBT is an applied approach that requires both the therapist and the client to invest in the process and be willing to be actively involved. The therapist and the client work together as a team to identify the client's problems, come up with coping strategies, and create positive solutions.

The Masters in Cogntive-Behavioral Psychotherapy is specifically designed to develop the skills required to apply the principles and methods of the Cognitive-Behavioral Approach, both in cases of daily emotional stress and psychological distress.
